Bath, Maine: The Maine Office of Tourism will host the “Visit Maine Pro Ski Championships” finale at Sunday River, Maine. This will be the fourth and final stop for the 2019 World Pro Ski Tour SKI season, March 28-30. Leading the standings for the overall Tour Championship title is Phil Brown of Canada with 101 points, in second Garrett Driller, USA with 61 and following in third is Michael Ankeny, USA with 50. Brown and Driller are not only fighting for the overall title but the “Tito’s Rooke of the Year” title as well. In the team standings, Team America leading by 105 points, Slalom Tokyo Drift is in second with 90 and Redneck Racing follows with 55. The team make-up consists of up to 4 pro racers taking the best total points from two of the team racers per event.

In 2019 a new event was introduced to the tour schedule, the “Junior Pro Challenge”. Utilizing the WPST pros as mentors, 16 junior-seeded seeded U14 racers from local ski club experienced the pro format first hand. These young racers ran the pro course from start to finish learning the challenges of horse-style start gates, identical side-by-side courses, and four foot high pro jumps. Alpine Bank sponsored the Steamboat Jr. event awarding the top 4 winners scholarships, $1,000 for first place, $500 for second, $300 for third and $200 for fourth. Mountain View at Trail’s End will host the Sunday River event. The World Pro Ski Tour is dedicated to the growth of the ski community, in 2020 there are plans to continue the development of this program at each pro event.

With a field of Olympians, National and NCAA Champions, this final event will be a great opportunity to watch an amazing group of athletes as they face off head-to-head in dual super slalom action. The pro qualifications and “Mountain View at Trail’s End Jr. Pro Challenge” will begin on Friday, March 29. The main event, the Dual Super Slalom and the Jr. Pro Challenge finals will be held on Saturday, March 30 on Monday Morning run at the base of Barker Base Lodge.

The tours last event was a night race at Steamboat Resort. It was an exciting event with the pros battled some of the toughest conditions of the season. The top four finishers for the Colorado Pro Cup Super-Slalom was Phil Brown, CAN edging out Alex Leever, USA with time differential of .449 in the first run. Leever had the advantage the second run with .199, it was not enough and Brown took the win, Garret Driller, USA followed in third and in fourth place was Florian Szwebel, USA. Brown took home $8,500 for the win.
