Sunday River announced today that they will suspend all remaining season events, including the World Pro Ski Tour Finals, scheduled for April 4-5, 2020. This decision is based on growing health and safety concerns over large groups of people congregating for events in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The World Pro Ski Tour awards an overall Tour winner and Rookie of the Year at Tour Finals, and without the remaining events of the season, the Tour will announce these winners next week.
“We are disappointed to cancel our Tour Finals, but we believe this is the best decision for our athletes, staff and fans in the midst of this unprecedented health crisis,” says Jon Franklin, CEO of the WPST. “We look forward to next season, where we plan to bring the Tour Finals back to Sunday River.”
The World Pro Ski Tour held three successful events in the 2019-2020 season as part of a resurgence of the Tour. This season’s events featured a new festival-style finish, big screens, live streaming coverage for the first time ever in pro ski racing, and television coverage, including a documentary series on OutsideTV and highlights show on CBS Sports Network. The 2020-2021 schedule will be announced in the coming months.
